Celebrating 150^th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Call for Papers

Respected Faculty/Scholar, 

The year-long celebration to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi begun from 2^nd October, 2018 in India and all over the world. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as ‘Mahatma’ (meaning ‘Great Soul’) was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, in North West India, on 2nd October 1869, into a Hindu Modh family. He was the primary leader of India’s independence movement and also the architect of a form of non-violent civil disobedience that would influence the world. Gandhi's life and teachings have inspired many liberationists of the 20th Century, including Dr. Martin Luther King in the United States, Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko in South Africa, and Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar. The Centre has also an intention to commemorate the 150^th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by various activities including essay competition, seminar, special issues and books on this great thinker. I would like to invite all academicians from all disciplines to contribute research papers and articles for our following special issues:

Last date of Paper Submission: 31^st July, 2019.

Format of Submission: The paper should be typewritten preferably in Times New Roman with 12 font size (English) and Kruti Dev (10) with 14 font size (Hindi) in MS-Word 2003 to 2010  and between 2500 to 3000 words. They should be typed on one side of the paper, double spaced with ample margins. The authors should submit the hard copy along with a CD and a copyright form to be sent to the editorial address. 

Originality of Work:  Only papers which have not been published elsewhere will be considered. Proofs will be sent to the authors if there is sufficient time to do so. An undertaking via  a “Forwarding Letter”  be submitted alongwith the paper.

Reference Style: Notes and references should appear at the end of the research paper/chapter. Citations in the text and references must correspond to each other; do not over reference by giving the obvious/old classic studies or the irrelevant.  CPPIS follows The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition. The Chicago Manual of Style presents two basic documentation systems: (1) notes and bibliography and (2) author-date. Choosing between the two often depends on subject matter and the nature of sources cited, as each system is favored by different groups of scholars. The notes and bibliography style is preferred by many in the humanities. The author-date system has long been used by those in the physical, natural, and social sciences.   भारतवर्ष को दर्शन और धर्म की दृष्टि से विश्वपटल पर बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण स्थान प्राप्त है. भारतीय समाज में धार्मिक विविधता के साथ-साथ हमें लोकधर्म की क्षेत्रीय स्तर पर हमें बहुत सी धाराएँ देखने को मिलती है. हरियाणा प्रदेश की भूमि को वेद, उपनिषद, महाभारत, पुराण, गीता आदि की रचना-स्थली भी माना गया है. इसे महाराजा हर्ष, सूरदास और बाणभट्ट जैसे महान व्यक्तित्वों की भूमि के साथ-साथ लोकभाषा का साहित्य का सृजनस्थल भी रहा है. लेकिन वर्तमान में हम वैश्वीकरण, सांस्कृतिकरण, और ब्राह्मणीकरण के चलते हम उन वैचारिक, सामाजिक और राजनैतिक प्रभाव डालने वाली संस्थाओं के महत्व को भूलाकर देश के सांस्कृतिक और दार्शनिक मूल्यों से दूर होते जा रहे हैं. प्रस्तुत लेख में हरियाणा राज्य में दर्शन और लोकधर्म के विषय पर प्रकाश डालना मुख्य उद्देश्य है.

The Centre for Positive Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies (CPPIS) Pehowa (Kurukshetra) on the occasion of the World Philosophy Day-2017 and 200th Birth Anniversary of Karl Marx, going to organize a National Level Essay Writing Competition on “The Philosophy of Karl Marx”. The competition aims at giving an opportunity to the youth of country to come across the various aspects of the philosophy of Karl Marx and his contribution to the world of knowledge.

About Karl Marx:
Karl Marx, in full Karl Heinrich Marx (born May 5, 1818, Trier and died March 14, 1883, London, England) was a philosopher, revolutionary, sociologist, historian, and economist. Marx and Freud have influenced life and literature in the twentieth century more deeply and extensively than the earlier great thinkers and scientists like Copernicus and Darwin influenced the life and literature in their own respective eras.. He published The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital, anticapitalist works that form the basis of Marxism. It was Capital’s 150th anniversary in autumn 2017, the 170th anniversary of the Communist Manifesto will be in February 2018, and it would have been Karl Marx’s 200th birthday in May 2018. The Communist Party of the Philippines calls on all Filipino workers to start a year-long commemoration and celebration of Marx’s 200th birthday on May 5, 2018. The whole revolutionary movement must salute Karl Marx’ and Marxism’s great role in history and in the continuing world struggle for the emancipation of the proletariat and the entire humanity. This celebration is of great relevance to the working class, from politics to philosophy to academics as Karl Marx made a lasting imprint on the face of history. The Centre for Positive Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies (CPPIS) has also an intention to commemorate the 200 years of Karl Marx by various activities including essay competition, seminar, special issues and books on this great thinker.
Eligibility: All students pursuing any Undergraduate or Post Graduate courses from recognized college/institute/university. Age limit is 25 years or below for this competition.
Prizes: Prizes will be given to top 5 entries and a certificate also provided to those who follow proper guidelines.
Submission Guidelines:
The essays submitted by the participants must be in ‘English and Hindi’ language only.
The essay must be typed in Microsoft Word with Times New Roman, Font size 12, 1.5 linear spacing.
Co-authorship is allowed.
Word Limit: 2000 Maximum words including footnotes.
The participants submitting an entry in this essay contest need to affirm that the entry is his/her own work. Plagiarism can lead to outright rejection of submission.
Criteria of Evaluation:
The criteria to be applied in evaluating the entries are:
• Originality of the content
• Creativity and Rationality
• Style and Presentation of content
• Clarity and proper citations

Registration and Submission:
There is no registration fee for this essay competition. Participants should submit their essay with 10th class certificate and institutional ID proof along with registration form till 31st March 2018 on the given address. Continuing its tradition of “Celebrating World Philosophy Day” every year, the Department of Philosophy and Department of Hindi of P. G. Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organised an event on 16^th November, 2017. Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college, felicitated the Guest-speaker, Ms. Sahar Gharachorlou, Founder of “Esitas Life Coaching Pvt Ltd.” and “Energy Healing Bliss". Dr. Anita Khosla, Head, Department of Hindi introduced the distinguished speaker to the audience.  

The main attraction of the programme was a thought provoking discourse by Ms. Sahar Gharachorlou. In the first stage of her lecture she discussed the philosophy of Louise L. Hay. Louise L. Hay, a metaphysical teacher has always said that she is not a healer, her work is a stepping stone on the pathway to happiness. The distinguished speaker highlighted the salient contribution of Louise L. Hay's philosophy:

• What we give out, we get back.  
• What we believe about ourselves and life, becomes true for us. Our thoughts are creative. “If we love and accept ourselves and others unconditionally then we will attract people in our lives who are the same”. 
• If you are experiencing difficult relationships and seem to have things working against you, it is because you either treat others this way or on some level believe that this kind of treatment is what you deserve. You may be totally unaware of this belief. Our subconscious thoughts manifest.
• Our thoughts are creative. Thoughts are like drops of water. They accumulate over time. As we continue to think the same thought over and over, it grows.
• We can release the past, and forgive everyone. Forgiveness opens the doorway to love. “Forgiveness is the key to your own release”.
• Holding onto old anger, hurt and upset causes dis-ease within the body. If you do not forgive, YOU remain the victim. Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is ourselves for things we feel we have or have not done. 
• Forgive yourself and others, let it go, release the hurt and anger.
• We are worth loving, self-approval and self-acceptance are the keys to positive change. Love is the most powerful healing force there is. I am sure you have heard this before, what you do not hear so often is that the real healing love comes from within.
• Loving the self brings about healing on all levels and in all things. When you love yourself you do not hurt yourself and you will not hurt others. You cannot truly love another if you do not love yourself.
• Just be willing “have an open mind and an open heart”. Just be willing to try some of these things. Even if you cannot accept yourself exactly as you are right now, you can still tell yourself you are willing to try and that will enable your subconscious to work on it.
• In the end of her lecture, she said that don’t search for happiness outside. It’s going to happen within you. We have covered happiness with hate and jealously for others. Be yourself. Never try to be someone else. Live in the moment, celebrate every day and every moment of your life. Create happiness in every small thing. Do not do multitask and concentrate on whatever is more easy to yourself. Happiness is a mental phenomenon, it's a state of mind that one feels light and expanded, the heart is open and joyful. Laughter is a physical expression as a result of a stimulus to the mind. That stimulus can be love, a good sense of humour, feeling good, etc.

A poster entitled, “Buddha on Happiness” was also released on this occasion. This was followed by an Interactive Session and the students discussed various concepts based on the theme of the lecture. Ms. Sahar  answered to the satisfaction of the students and appreciated their zeal to learn. About 80 students and faculty  members of the college participated in this programme.

Dr. Rama Arora (Dean) graced the function and interacted with the speaker on happiness. Concluding the function, Dr. Desh Raj Sirswal, Head, Department of Philosophy proposed a vote of thanks to the speaker and the audience. He observed that the lecture is a significant step to teach and acquaint students with the key concepts of the philosophy of happiness. The session was very gainful for one and all as it touched not only upon the theoretical dimensions but its application can have a long lasting positive effect on everybody's life.

The Positive Philosophy Society of  P.G.Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh  organised  a “Declamation Contest” on “The Role of Youth in National Integration” held on 4^th November, 2016.  The competition started with an address from Ms. Nidhi Semwal, President of the Society. She said that the “National Unity Day” is celebrated every year on 31^st October throughout India. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.  This celebration helps youth to be aware of and provides an opportunity to everyone to maintain the integral strength of the nation. It makes Indian citizens to realize that how a national integrity helps in defeating the actual and potential threats for unity, integrity and security of the nation. She said the present programme is a part of weeklong celebration  of “National Unity Week” being held in the college from 31^st October to 6^th November, 2016.

Ms. Bhanu Priya coordinated the presentations. Total 33 students participated in it. The students declaimed on various topics like national security, casteism, religious tolerance, youth problems, corruption, women issues, educational issues and quotes thinkers of eminence in their presentations. Results are as follows:

·      First Prize: Ms. Nidhi Semwal  (B.A.Final Year)

·      Second Prize: Ms. Bhanu Priya (B.A. Second Year)

·      Third Prize: Ms. Purandhi Gupta  (B.A. First Year)

The students were given the topics on which they were asked to present their views within the given time limit. They displayed confidence, enthusiasm and alertness while participating in the competition. Judges appreciated the efforts of the students and expressed that such competitions lead to free flow of ideas and help in sensitizing towards the issues that need attention. The participants and teachers were provided with refreshments.
